Why Mess With a Good Thing

Things are pretty good around this place. I have a wonderful husband and a great little boy. My house is nice and roomy, though it may need some touching up in the yard and inside. Daniel and I both have good jobs that we enjoy. That, in itself, is more than many people can say. Especially now, in a time of economic hardship. Still, with all this, I can’t leave well enough alone.

If I can ever get an answer back from the college, I should be starting classes at the end of this month in graphic design. When I was talking about all the trouble it has been trying to get everything straightened out, my listener said that it made her tired just listening to me recount it all. And I had to wonder if I am making it more difficult than it really is. It wouldn’t be the first time. I tend to let the small things crawl under my skin. Really, if it doesn’t work out this semester I can always get a jump start on next semester. But then, that’s the way a procrastinator lives. I would know. So, Academic Spirits be with me on this one…

The question must be asked – I can hear your thoughts- “If everything is great as it is, why change it?” [Maybe those aren't your thoughts. Maybe they're mine. Maybe because I am starting to think I've gone mad.] Family. Full time job. Part-time hobby/job. School? I have to wonder how this will affect my marriage. How will it affect my son? Yikes, right? But it can be done. It will be done. As great as things are, I know that there is more. I know that I am not, I cannot believe I am getting ready to type this out, fulfilling my potential. Or, rather, I am not fulfilling my dreams. And I can’t if I keep sitting still.

Why mess with a good thing?

To make it great.

A Mom is Born…

My pregnancy discovery will forever be etched in my mind. How could it not be? I was going to be a MOMMY! There was life blooming inside of me and it felt just as I had always imagined it would. It was Mother’s Day 2008 when Daniel and I had just left my sister’s house. I asked him if we could stop by the store on the way home because I wanted to get a pregnancy test. It just felt like this was it- I can’t explain it any other way. I didn’t even wait until we got home. After paying for the test, I walked myself right into the women’s restroom and pulled out a stick. (I bought the three pack because I really wasn’t even late yet. And I wanted to be sure.) The line was faint, but it was there. And I took all the rest of the tests anyway. Just to be sure. Or maybe because I was hit with a tidal wave of excitement every time I watched the line appear on a new stick.

Our pregnancies are so special. Not just because a child is born, but because a mom is also born. We are who we are, yet we are changed. Sure, our bodies change. Our hips widen and our breasts fill with milk. Sometimes our hormones cause facial breakouts (and emotional breakdowns). Our hearts and minds start changing too. We start thinking about things we might not have given much thought to before. We worry about the health of our babies and whether or not we’ll make the right choices. Where will they go to school, what will they be like, will we be able to teach them all they’ll need to know?

It’s an exciting time. It’s a frightening time.

That’s why I’m so excited to be a part of the Mom Is Born project this year. It’s the only the second virtual baby shower hosted by two of my most favorite ladies at My Mommy Manual. Its purpose is to celebrate a woman’s journey into motherhood AND this year the whole thing will be benefiting the March of Dimes!

So, you want to hear more? I knew you did!

This year’s mommy being born is Virginia Kerr. While this event is really more about raising awareness for prenatal health, premature babies, and each of YOU new mommies being born- I would highly recommend taking a few moments to get to know this new mommy. She’s been sharing her journey and you might just find that you have some things in common. Plus, it will really help when you join the conversation, Wednesday August 25 11am-1pm CST. You are going to be joining, right? RIGHT?

Because, as if you needed any more incentive, they’re giving things away too!! Things you can win! Yes- YOU!!  So, first things first. You can join the chat on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25 by accessing it below if you are already hanging out around here. Or you can access it at My Mommy Manual as well.

Live TV : Ustream

Now, what about those prizes?

Well, raffle prizes have been generously donated by the shower sponsors. Prizes like these:

Cool, I KNOW! Want even more good news??

You can also reserve one of these VERY cool Holding Hands bracelets, personalized by you, your friends and family.

A limited number of Holding Hands bracelets with one-of-a-kind glass beads are being handmade by lampwork artist, Melissa Villadiego for this event for guests to buy for a special mom or mom-to-be. A portion of the proceeds will go to the March of Dimes. If you want to reserve yours, please fill out this quick form at MMM to be notified when they are available.

And, of course, join the virtual shower to learn more about how you can personalize these awesome handmade bracelets. (Can you tell how much I am in love with these?)

Congratulations Virginia, and Congratulations YOU!!
